Five Halloween Haunts to try in North Wales

North Wales might not strike you as the scariest place to explore, but this Halloween there are lots of spooky goings on that will get you and your family’s pulses racing!

Here are our top five haunts to visit in and around Porthmadog this half term and Halloween. Will you be brave enough?

Halloween at Bodnant Garden

If you want some fresh air with a twist, Bodnant Garden are having a Halloween themed half term, with a pumpkin trail, and a chance to make your own bat in the craft workshop. You can also find out more about real bats and on Sunday 30th October between 12pm and 2pm you can help the friendly witches make their houses from sticks and branches. No need to book.

The Circus of Horrors at Anglesey Sea Zoo, Anglesey

The aquarium is turning into a scary circus on Sunday 30th October in the evening.  Slots are at either 4:30-6pm or 6:30-8pm, for the family to wander through and be prepared to be scared! Bring a torch as you head through the darkness and come across the lost city of Atlantis and the lair of the Kraken sea monster. Booking is essential – call 01248 430 411.

Jump aboard the Ffestiniog Halloween Express

All aboard the Welsh Highland Railway ghost train! You can catch the train from Porthmadog on 26th, 27th and 28th October to Tan-y-Bwlch where you’ll have an evening of fireworks, spooky goings on and lots of fun. You get a great trip on the train and a hot supper included. Advance booking is required. Phone 01766 516024 to reserve tickets.

Ghost Walks and Hunts at Bodelwyddan Castle

Are you brave enough to take a ghost walk at the castle? Over Halloween there are a number of ghost walks and hunts, where you can investigate the spooky goings on and experience the castle under the cover of darkness. The walk includes a visit to the cold, dark cellar, and the hunt itself will include a full paranormal investigation.  You can book online through the link above.

Fight the Zombies in Zip World

Are you brave enough to search for zombies in Zip World’s slate caverns? Dare you enter the vampire lair? This Halloween the slate caverns at Blaenau Ffestiniog will be decorated with ghouls, ghosts and goblins for a truly scary experience. Booking can be made through the website link above.

After an exhausting day or evening of being scared to death you can then creep on down to the Golden Fleece.
