Christmas Markets near Porthmadog

When you come for your pre-Christmas break at our Porthmadog hotel, it’s likely you’ll want to get into the Christmas spirit. What better way than to take a trip to one of the areas Christmas markets or fairs?

Christmas markets have become more popular in recent years, with German and European style markets taking place alongside more local Christmas craft and gift fairs. With food to tempt you from spicy sausages to fruit laden cakes, warming mulled wine or hot chocolate laced with Baileys, and gifts that would make great Christmas presents, or just a treat for yourself, there’s plenty of opportunity for everyone to enjoy themselves.

Here’s our round up of the areas best Christmas markets and fairs:

Portmeirion Food and Drink Festival

When: 1^st– 3^rd December

Just round the corner from us is Portmeirion. The Italianite village is a beautiful setting for a food and craft festival as well as a great place to explore. There’s 120 stalls at the three day festival, many that will be selling local Welsh produce, alongside live music and a Christmas grotto for the kids. The festival will have lots of opportunities for you to buy gifts, including local crafts.

Beaumaris Castle Victorian Christmas

When: Sat 25^th November

A slightly different offer, but great if you’ve got kids. The castle will be getting a Victorian makeover! With a Victorian Punch and Judy show and games to play, and Christmas carols including traditional Welsh carols . You can even dress up!

Hwyl yr Wyl Pwllheli Festive Fun

When: Saturday 25^th and Sunday 26^th November

Organised by the locals with lots of local businesses pulling together, the festive fun includes a skating rink, children’s rides, a market and a Santa’s grotto too! There’ll also be musical entertainment. A great local event.

Surf Snowdonia Christmas Market

When – Saturday 10^th and 11^th December

With an actual Christmas bouncy castle (we were sold right there) , stalls where you’ll be able to buy gifts, festive foods, arts and crafts and even a drive in cinema the Surf Snowdonia Christmas market promises to be a lot of fun. Free entry, except for the drive in cinema

If you’re not feeling very Christmassy you can always check out the surf lagoon instead!
