Must Visit Activities in North Wales for 2018
With the new year fast approaching, we take a look at some of our favourite activities in North Wales that you should try in 2018. Whether you’re a thrill seeker or relaxer, they are plenty of great activities to try this coming year.
If you are planning a short break to North Wales, then why not stay with us? Porthmadog is the gateway to Snowdonia, and offers easy access to hundreds of great activities – visit out accommodation page for more information.
Llechwedd Slate Caverns
Situated close to the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, the Llechwedd Slate Caverns allow you to explore the story of slate through a variety of unique tours. Our personal favourite, The Llechwedd Deep Mine Tour, reopens in February 2018.
Travel into the belly of the mountain on the steepest cable railway in the UK, and immerse yourself into the world of an 1840s miner. You will meet the mine’s owner, and some of the men and children who spent up to 12 hours a day working in these mines!
National Trust’s Bodnant Garden
Nestled in the foothills of Snowdonia, the world-famous Bodnant Gardens offer a different experience in every season. If you’re looking to relax after the busy Christmas period, take a wander through the gardens and immerse yourself in the various smells, shapes and colours.
The grounds cover over 80-acres, including hundreds of different types of plants, shrubs and trees.
Zip World and Bounce Below, Penrhyn Quarry
If you are looking for a bit more of an adrenaline rush, then why not visit Zip World in the new year?
The Penrhyn Quarry zip line is the longest in Europe, and the fastest in the world – reaching speeds of up to 100mph. Enjoy the stunning Welsh scenery as you are projected face-down across the quarry.
If you are not a fan of heights, or just don’t fancy the idea of hurtling across a quarry at 100mph, then why not check out Bounce Below. Unlock your inner James Bond or Lara Croft as you bounce, slide and jump across an underground cavern the size of a cathedral!
Glosters Pottery Shop, Porthmadog
For the more arts and craft inclined individuals, the Glosters Pottery Shop in Porthmadog offer a variety of ceramic and craft workshops throughout the year. They even have plans to expand their workshop, where they will offer a further range of courses including sewing, jewellery and soap making.
The family run enterprise are firm believers in everything handmade, and a trip to their shop would not be complete without meeting Arthur, their beautiful Miniature Dachshund which can be found patrolling the workshop!
