Things to do in Porthmadog when it Snows

The recent weeks have given Porthmadog more snow than we saw all of last year and residents and visitors alike have enjoyed the unusual weather. While the rest of the country seemed to have been brought to a halt by the arrival of the “Beast from the East”, there was still plenty to do in and around our bustling town.

The classics

Nothing brings the child out in people quite like the falling of snow. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world, if it starts to snow then there is simply nothing else to do but get outside and enjoy it. Local residents and most of our visitors are usually up for a snowball fight and there is plenty of space to have one with Snowdonia National Park on our doorstep. Snowdonia also makes for a cracking sledging course, if you dare to brave the slopes that is. Snowmen building also has to be done when the snow falls; prizes for the best dressed!

Madog Quads

The Beast from the East has nothing on these beastly machines and a little bit of snow won’t halt them in their track. Join the team at Madog Quads for a quad bike experience in the snow as you race around the countryside and take on their exciting treks or the exhilaration of testing your skill over the humps, bumps and dips of their site course. Quad biking in the snow is not for the faint of heart and unfortunately not available for kids under 6.

Admiring the snow from inside

The scenery around Snowdonia is breathtaking at any time but Snowdonia in the snow truly is magical. However, we understand if you’d rather stay warm and dry in this weather so why not take in the wonderous landscapes from the comfort of one of the steam trains which run in the area. Welsh Highland Heritage Railway and Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways run trips around Snowdonia National Park.
