Welsh souvenir shopping in and around Porthmadog
When you come on holiday there’s nothing like buying something from the area you’re visiting, to take home as a souvenir.
In the Porthmadog area, we’ve got some great local products that you can buy as a special gift or as a reminder of your holiday. Or buy something to take home as a souvenir to thank your neighbour for watering the plants and feeding the cat.
Glosters
Glosters is an absolute delight if you love pottery and ceramics. Each piece is handmade and individual, and takes inspiration from the sea. The shop also offers a range of lifestyle accessories which includes toiletries, textiles, traditional Welsh slate and candles.
The ceramics are designed and made by Tom Gloster above the shop, and is passionate about the pottery he makes. Myfanwy Gloster runs the shop and buys all the lifestyle pieces.
Each piece is carefully chosen, and it’s a lovely place to spend time. If you’re lucky you’ll also get to meet Arthur, a miniature Dachshund.
Inigo Jones
If you want a piece of Wales to take home, nothing says North Wales like a piece of Welsh slate. Inigo Jones Slate Works offers a wide range of Welsh slate items to buy.
You can choose from a name plate for your home, items for the kitchen such as cake stands and cheese boards which will make a great centrepiece. Find homeware items such as tea light holders, and garden ornaments.
You can also buy smaller pieces like jewellery. If you want to find out how the slate is made into all of the products you can buy, you can also book on a workshop tour.
Adra
Adra is the Welsh word for home, and Adra sell the best of Wales homeware. All the products that Adra sell are either made in Wales, made by Welsh designers, or feature the Welsh language.
If you want a souvenir with a Welsh slogan on it, this is the shop to buy it in. From wash bags to Welsh slate and traditional love spoon key rings.
There is also a fantastic collection of love spoons. A Welsh love spoon was traditionally carved as a gift to symbolise romantic intentions. Buy one to show your love.
Anglesey Sea Salt Company
If you want to trek a bit further afield for some traditional Anglesey sea salt, it will be well worth your while.
Ty Halen offer a range of different sea salts from Anglesey, including celery, chilli and garlic, charcoal and vanilla flavourings.
You’ll also find gastronomic delights like Oak Smoked Water used to flavour soups, casseroles and risottos.
Another must buy is the Halen Mon Salted Caramel Spread. Eat it drizzled over brownies and banoffee pie.
From Welsh slate to Anglesey sea salt, pottery made in Porthmadog to Welsh slogans emblazoned on cushions and bags, you really can take a piece of Wales home with you.
