Summer Fun in Porthmadog
As the sun heats up and the holiday season gets into full swing, Porthmadog is welcoming visitors with open arms. From our lovely independent shops to our full on adventure activities, we’ve got so much to offer, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Here’s just some of the fun you can get up to this summer in Porthmadog
Have a picnic on Black Rock Sands
Black Rock Sands is the local beach, and as well as having a dedicated water sports area if that’s your thing, there’s also lots of space for families, and the all important picnic.
Get sand in your sandwiches and bring your bucket and space. Hopefully the weather will be good enough for a paddle, and with the beautiful views around the area, you can kick back, pull out the book you’ve been trying to read for the last three months and relax.
The total bonus is there’s also a shop and toilets, so you can spend all day without worrying about how you’ll spend a penny too.
Ride the footplate or have your chips at the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway
The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway are offering a summer programme, and one of these activities is for kids to ride on the footplate, every Saturday from July 29th to August 26th.
Kids will get to learn all about the steam train, and go for a little drive before being safely deposited back on the platform.
If food is more you’re thing, the railway are running a ‘Chippy Train’ on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Tuesday 25th July to Thursday August 31st, where you’ll enjoy fish and chips on a round trip from Porthmadog via Blaenau Ffestiniog and back. Booking needs to be made before3pm on the day of travel.
Quad biking
If you’re more up for action and adventure, our very own Madog Quads should fit the bill. Set over 30 acres of great scrambling tracks, this activity is for anyone over six. You can take a sedate ride around the centre, to look at the beautiful countryside, or you can go hard on the dips, hills and bumps.
Book in advance, and make sure you take some outdoor gear that you don’t mind getting mucky, although wellies and outdoor gear can be provided, but after a full day trekking, you’ll probably want your own!
Go Pony Trekking along the coast
If you want to spend time seeing the area, but would prefer a more unusual form of transport, why not try pony trekking at the Porthmadog Activity and Riding Centre. Anyone from age four to an adult up to 14 stone can give it a try, and it’s a great summer activity, you can get out and see more of the area without being cooped up in a car, or sweating it out on a bike!
There’s so much to do in and around Porthmadog, we hope you’ll join us soon. We have a range of accommodation in Porthmadog, including bed and breakfast accommodation and a self catering cottage. To book, please contact us or call 01766 512421.
