Unusual summer activities in North Wales

If you want to take advantage of this amazing summer weather we’re experiencing, then why not take a trip to North Wales for a relaxing break, try some new activities and explore new places?

As well as fantastic beaches to top up your tan, great places to lounge and drink ice cold beer and gin such as our outdoor beer garden, and fantastic scenery to walk, hike and bike in there’s also lots of summer activities to take part in too.

Sea watch

Head to Bull Bay in Anglesey on August 5th  from 5pm to 7pm , to catch sight of porpoises and sea birds with the local Marine Officer.

Park behind the Bull Bay Hotel, and bring a picnic and the Marine Officer will help you identify birds and spot local wildlife. A great way to spend a summer’s evening.

The Menai Strait Regattas

If sailing is your thing, the Menai Strait Regattas are definitely worth a visit. 12 individual regattas take place from 30th July to 11th August.

The races mostly take place from the Beaumaris side of the Menai Straits with a race every day, and social events in the evening including quizzes,  cocktail events and parties.

Bring a picnic, a bottle of something fizzy and enjoy the boats.

Ukulele Festival

If you want to go to something quirky, Uke-a-Bay is a ukulele festival in its fifth year, running on August 10th, 11th and 12th in Colwyn Bay.

The festival is free and will include performances, a harmonica workshop, busking, and a George Formby film show.

Snowdon Night Walks

If you’ve always wanted to climb Snowdon, but want to do things a bit differently, why not try a guided night walk?

You’ll climb the mountain at dusk and watch the sunset on the summit, which is a once in a lifetime experience.

The Llanberis Path is the easiest way to climb Snowdon and at this time of night you’ll have the path to yourselves. It takes about seven hours, so make sure you take an afternoon nap before you set off! This is a pretty amazing way to see Snowdon, and even better book a room at our hotel in Porthmadog and you’ll have somewhere comfy to sleep , after you climb back down!

Jazz in the Park

More music fun on 2nd, 9th and 16th August with Jazz in the Park.  Departing from Porthmadog at 7:15pm by the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway, you’ll head to Tan-y-Bwlch station where you’ll get to listen to some fantastic jazz, and enjoy a BBQ or a savoury cheese platter, drinks and a great time.

If the weather holds there’ll be open air dancing, and guests are reminded to bring insect spray! Advance booking is recommended, as the events usually sell out.  Call the Booking Office on 01766 516024 to book.

We have some availability for last minute breaks so if one of these events grabs your fancy, or you just want to hot foot it away from responsibility and the daily grind into the Welsh mountains for a bit, book now, or contact us for availability.
