Now the clocks have gone back it’s time to start getting into the swing of Christmas shopping!

It can be so hard to know what to buy for Aunty Jane or what Cousin Kevin might want this year, but here in Porthmadog we’ve got lots of independent shops with great gift ideas for you.

Why not head to our restaurant Near Porthmadog for a well earned break and some good food whilst you tot up what’s left to buy and maybe even fit in one of our legendary cheesecakes?

Here’s a few of our recommendations for local shopping this festive season:

Kerfoots

136- 140 High Street. Open 9:30am-5pm Mon to Sat, and 10am to 4pm Sunday

No shopping trip to Porthmadog would be complete without a visit to Kerfoots, our local department store. With three floors, there’s everything you need from cookware to clothes and home wares, so you can tick off a few of the people to buy for on your list in one go. They’re also specialists in hampers, which is a great idea for the person that has everything.

Browsers Bookshop

73 High Street. Open 9:30am-5pm Mon to Sat. Closed Sundays

This bookshop is the perfect place for a gift for the bookworm in your life. Independent, cosy and full of exciting reads, this is a must if you’ve got books to buy.  They also sell a range of art materials from paints to easels and paper as well as stationery.

Genius Gifts

130 High Street. Open 10am to 5pm Mon to Sat and 11am to 4pm Sundays

Genius Gift store is packed full of gifts, jewellery and lovely things to buy. They sell gifts for all occasions, from mugs to home fragrances, local pottery to lanterns. With three floors to browse over, the only problem is you’re likely to want to come away with a little something for yourself!

The Lemon Tub

115 High Street. Open 9:30am-5pm Mon to Sat

If jewellery and scarves is more your thing, then head over to The Lemon Tub. There’s a wide range of clothing and accessories to buy and they sell a range of brands from organic clothing to Italian cashmere. You can also pick up a pair of those most loved Christmas items; Socks!

Cob Records

1-3 Britannia Terrace. Open 9am to 5pm Mon to Sat

For the music lover in your life, we’ve got just the thing. Cob Records is a good old fashioned record shop, with a team who can lay their hands on rare vinyl but also have all the latest new music too. They’re experts in finding that CD you once had that will bring the memories flooding back so great for a sentimental gift.

Glosters

2 Bank Place. Open 10am to 5pm Mon to Sat.

For some original pottery, you’ve got to head to Glosters. The pottery is handmade by Tom Gloster in his studio above the shop. There’s a range of unique and bespoke pottery and ceramics you can purchase, and if you’re lucky you’ll also get to meet Arthur, the Dachshund too!
